Title: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Cardiac/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CICU/PICU)

Location: Durham, NC

Company: Melnic Consulting Group

Description:

Join this world-class children’s hospital in the Southeastern United States as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in their Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and their Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).  This 178 bed organization is committed to achieving and maintaining a standard of excellence in all they do, consistently striving to make their patient experiences models of quality care through advanced treatment, compassionate support, and full family participation and communication.  Their physicians have advanced training and extensive experience in every health care discipline.

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will be a member of the team that provides direct patient care services under the supervision of the PICU Medical Director to patients 0-21 years of age.  Cardiac and intensive care experience are essential for this position.  There are 12 beds in the CICU and 16 beds in the PICU.  Daily rounds on a rotating schedule will include all patients in the PICU and/or PTCU, collaborating with the attending PICU physician, other attending physicians from referral services and the health care team to assess, diagnose, plan, set priorities and realistic outcomes, and evaluate the effectiveness and cost efficiency of patient care.

The PNP will order or perform the following procedures:  Perform physical exams, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribe appropriate interventions and medications and coordinate the care and discharge of patients.  Additional responsibilities may include intubation, conscious sedation per protocol, venipuncture and/or arterial puncture for blood sampling, line placement, administration of infusion therapy and other delegated medical tasks.

The culture at this leading children’s hospital is one of teamwork, and the PNP will be working with fellows, attending physicians and coordinators as well as the rapid response team that is part of the unit.  There is a very comprehensive orientation program followed by additional opportunities to gain and master procedural skills.  The fully staffed unit will offer administrative time for non-clinical activities such as research, presentation preparation and academic pursuits.
