South Dakota Grants Full Practice Authority to NPs
It’s an exciting day for Nurse Practitioners, especially those in South Dakota! The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) announced this morning that South Dakota has become the 22nd state in the US (plus the District of Columbia), to grant Full Practice Authority for nurse practitioners.
According to the AANP bulletin, “With the signing of Senate Bill 61, South Dakota Governor Daugaard and legislators are bringing full and direct access to NP care to South Dakota patients.”
At Melnic, we wholeheartedly support nationwide adoption of Full Practice Authority. In addition to empowering NPs, this movement is key to improving healthcare quality and accessibility across the nation.
To see a list of states with Full Practice Authority, visit the AANP 2017 Nurse Practitioner State Practice Environment Map. And, for more on this topic, see our article “Understanding Full Practice Authority Leads to Career Success for NPs.”
Congratulations, South Dakota!
