May is Mental Health Month! Let’s recognize all the ways NPs and PAs are helping to change the perception of mental illness through compassion, empathy, and understanding.
According to NAMI, one in five Americans is affected by a mental health condition. Despite the prevalence of these disorders, many people avoid seeking help and treatment due to social stigma. In May, many organizations observe Mental Health Month in order to raise awareness of this important issue.
Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants have the power to bring hope to the millions of Americans living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions.
Free Training for NPs and PAs to Treat Opioid Addiction
In response to the opioid epidemic, a free online training course is now available for NPs and PAs to learn to treat and manage patients with opioid use disorder.
The course is made possible through a partnership of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the American Academy of PAs (AAPA).
If you’re an NP or PA, NP/PA 24-Hour Buprenorphine Waiver Training will equip you to prescribe buprenorphine, a medication to treat addiction involving opioid use.
Free Mental Health CE Courses from APNA
The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) is offering four free continuing education courses this month in honor of Mental Health Awareness month. If you’re an APNA member, click here and take advantage of this offer before May 31, 2018.
